Transform
Transform, a City Takeover, Nottingham
'You Are Welcome' is a collaborative project by FABRIC, UK New Artists, Parham Ghalamdar, and Elaheh Raofi, showing how small actions can create a more welcoming environment.
In June 2024, as part of Nottingham's 'Transform, a City Takeover' event led by New Art Exchange, these groups united to support emerging artists and diverse voices, with a focus on Global Ethnic Majority talent.
Sponsored by New Art Exchange, the collaboration involved creating functional objects like bags and napkins that visitors and participants could use during the takeover. These items, designed by artists Parham Ghalamdar and Elaheh Raofi, who have both experienced migration, blended their personal stories with their artistic styles, highlighting the importance of feeling welcomed.
The 'You Are Welcome' project demonstrated that simple, thoughtful gestures are essential in building an inclusive community, aiming to make everyone feel safe and valued.
